Tips for at-Home IPL Hair Removal

Who doesn’t want to be hair free? You may have done tons of researches, compared various ways of hair removal, and just got your IPL handset delivered. Now what’s next? What should you do to get the desired result as quick as possible? Here are some tips we have for you.

Read product manual carefully

We understand your excitement to try it out immediately when your package is delivered, but keep in mind not all IPL devices are designed the same way, they may have their own specific instructions. To achieve the best result, we highly recommend you reading the manual thoroughly first before using the device, so you will know the do’s and don’ts. It is crucial because improper use not only will not give you the desired result, it may even cause harm to your skin.

Keep consistent

Like any other at-home beauty instruments, if you would like to see obvious results, you have to use it consistently. Your hair follicles are on their own individual growth circles, therefore you need to do the hair treatment on a regular basis. You can’t complain the product doesn’t work if you don’t follow the instructions or don’t keep up with the treatment plan. We advise you to set up a clock alarm on your phone, so that you won’t forget the treatment in your busy schedule.

Stick to the treatment plan

If you want to achieve your goal, you need to commit to the treatment plan stated in the product manual. This means, first, be patient and be consistent. Do what the manual tells you to do on a regular basis. Second, don’t hurry things along. Be patient, your hair free skin doesn’t come immediately. If you decide to do treatment every day and assume it will help you get the desired result quicker, unfortunately it will only cause skin irritation.

Do maintenance treatments

Many people stop using the device after completing the initial treatment plan. Even if you already have your dreamlike hairless skin, we highly suggest you to do a few maintenance treatments to get the maximum benefits. How frequently should you do it? Let’s say if the regular session is done once a week, then a maintenance session can be done once a month or once every two months.

Avoid any type of tan

IPL is the most effective when you have darker hair and lighter skin. Therefore, stay away from any type of tan, natural or fake during your whole treatment.

Avoid plucking and waxing

Plucking and waxing will pull hair from the follicle, which hinders the light energy to reach to the hair root. It will influence the effectiveness of your hair removal. Additionally, plucking and waxing will make your skin more sensitive, not good for the treatment.

Shave before each treatment

So if I cannot pluck, wax or tweeze my hair, what should I do? The answer is shaving. You need to shave the area you would like to treat before each session. This makes the light energy reach to the hair root more effectively. Besides, you won’t want to singe your hair as the light energy heats, it won’t smell good.

Stay cool and dry

Anything that moistures your skin, such as sweat, body cream will make the IPL treatment uncomfortable. IPL also works the best when your skin is cool. So don’t pick a time when you just come out of a shower or just finish doing exercise because your body temperature will arise.

Apply sunscreen after each session

Your skin becomes more sensitive after each IPL treatment. To protect it from sun burn, you should take extra precaution,  always always apply sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher after each treatment, or better yet, cover up.

Avoid perfumes, deodorants and hot showers

Again, due to the sensitivity of your skin after each treatment, we recommend you avoiding perfumes, deodorants and hot showers for 24 hours.

It is best to exfoliate the treated areas a few days after treatment. This will prevent any regrowth becoming ingrown. But don’t exfoliate immediately. Your skin is more sensitive than usual after treatment, give it one day to recover.
